Season to Taste featured in the July/August issue of Alameda Magazine:

Next to the bakery, Season to Taste (510-522-3663) is a great spot for lunch. Sandwiches ($6–$8), including the aforementioned grilled-vegetable panini (eggplant, zucchini and squash with pesto, provolone, roasted peppers and sun-dried tomatoes) find fine accompaniment in a full selection of salads, from Greek (with tomatoes, onions, olives and feta cheese) tossed baby greens with tender chicken in chimichuri, a southwestern-style green sauce.

While you’re there, you can order your dinner—the roasted Rocky chicken ($15 for a whole chicken with two 16-ounce side dishes, $10 for a half chicken with two 8-ounce sides). Owner Lynn Styne created the chicken special for the family on the go. “We’re trying to simplify things for people,” she says. “It’s for people just coming off work, tired, needing a quick, healthy dinner.” Styne shares the passion for food evident in the other independents in the Marketplace. “We want to offer a level of service and quality product that you can’t get anywhere else in town,” she says.

Season To Taste’s “Painted Hills” burger, captures the essence of fine burgerdom by abiding with all of the ”Nine Truths“ of a Great Burger.

This ”10-napkin“ burger consists of a six-ounce, one-inch-thick hunk of prime chuck grilled to a perfect medium-rare. The meat is ensconced in freshly-baked ciabatta, which adds a soft, chewy, flavorful element while sturdily soaking up an abundance of savory juices. A "Black River Bleu Cheese" aioli, rife with sharp/salty umami tastes, is deftly applied. A large leaf of crispy Romaine lettuce, a thick slice of tomato, and a generous amount of slow-cooked caramelized onions round out the vital elements of what is a stellar ode to the glories of burgerosity. Season To Taste also throws in an abundance of excellent house-made, crispy potato chips as lagniappe.
